banished_dame: ([10] Hold on Forever)
[note: This is the continuing ever evolving arc for Rose and the Doctor. This is a completed 49 tag challenge that I've converted to two pieces to post up for posterity in Rose's journal. It follows the events directly after the return to the TARDIS from Gallifrey after Dean dies. This is clearly hours later. Much, much love and adoration go to Rude-not-Ginger for all the tireless efforts!]

He couldn't sleep, of course. It wasn't as if he'd truly tried. He'd stripped off his clothes, showered, shaved, puttered about in his jim-jams, but never really found his way to his own bed. His arm didn't hurt nearly so bad anymore, but he couldn't seem to stop his stomach from aching. Too much had gone on. His room felt far too empty.

As with most nights, he wandered the TARDIS alone. Rose slept a ridiculous amount of time and there was always so much to do. Still, tonight he just put the kettle on and made some tea and watched it get cold without drinking any. He wished that he could've saved Rose's friend. His friend, in some ways. He felt as if he'd failed. And he worried about Rose. She looked heartbroken and that made failure worse. His failure hurt her. He should've just focused on the fact that he FAILED and that should've been enough, but it made it that much worse. Just a little bit more to push it over the edge into unbearable.

He left the mug of tea on the table and walked around a little more, felt the TARDIS vibrate beneath his feet. He wandered a few more corridors, eventually finding himself at Rose's door. The TARDIS must've been worried about her, he most certainly wasn't walking in the direction of the bedrooms. Was he? No, no, he wasn't.

She was probably sleeping. It wouldn't hurt to check on her, would it? He gently turned the knob on her door and pressed it open, just a little.

It wasn't as if she wanted to sleep at all... )

[note: This follows the ongoing arc revolving around the Demon War where Dean Winchester lost his life. It is the next piece from Rose's perspective, but follows this from the Doctor's here. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it with rude-not-ginger over the past few weeks.]

By the time it's over he's just tired. The TARDIS is tired from holding up the time bubble for so long and he's just tired of the death and the loss. It feels like he could've prevented it all. He should've prevented it all. Instead, there was so much death and nothing was accomplished. Not even the life of one stupid little human that they all went out there to fight for.

He wants to sleep. He doesn't sleep often but right now his body is craving it. His hands move slowly over the console as he sets a new destination. One trip out, one trip back. He promises those he's leaving back on Earth that he'll be right back. Of course he will be. He's just got to pick up Rose. He promised her he'd be there soon. Just like he promised Jackie he'd keep her safe. Just like he promised Sam and Dean he'd help them.

He's such a man of his word that it makes his stomach churn. )

[continued from here here - part I][Previously on Gallifrey and Back, Rose and the Doctor traveled to Gallifrey in order to keep her safe from the oncoming war that Dean and Sam were embarking on. Their visit has shown Rose the city and the school where the Doctor did not spend most of his time at all.]

He led her to a teleport and set the coordinates to outside of the dome. "Should put us a few hundred feet away from the house. Still get a chance to walk in the red grass." He smiled.

Raising her eyebrows up in a moment of disbelief she smiled, "Red grass?" For a moment she almost hoped it's smell like some sort of fruit, but really the red grass all on it's own was enough for her to be happy with. She watched what he was doing too, because honestly if something did happen she wanted to make sure she wasn't stuck miles away from the TARDIS in a spot where she would have no way of knowing where to even start. She might've been considered a companion here, but honestly she wasn't going to shy away from paying attention just in case.

The thing of it was that she knew how lucky she was to get to visit... )

Rose was nervous. It was really like a giant knot of nervous wound tightly up around a ball of tension that felt more like nervous too, if that was even possible. Which considering the things she's seen on her travels she was pretty sure it was. Plus it was in her stomach at the moment. Maybe it was a mistake asking to go to Gallifrey, and even if it was a mistake it wasn't like she could take it back now. The TARDIS had landed and she was not exactly pacing but there was a tiny bit of shuffling of her feet going on. Pink high top Converse on her feet tied a bit too tight on the left foot made her wonder if she should retie them, which made her look at her foot every so often.

Gallifrey was right outside the TARDIS doors... )

[continued here - part II]

[RP completed with [livejournal.com profile] rude_not_ginger, x-posted in Ten's Journal as well. Thanks so much to MJ for making this one fight into something that ended up pushing Rose to ask for something she'd never have done in the first place, and then taking one scene and turning it into something truly Epic. I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.]

Galaxies...
Pour down my cheeks
Galaxies…
They flood the street
Galaxies...

When we dance
When we dance
Eels and sea grass float on by

I’m ten thousand leagues...
Beneath the sea
I'm ten thousand leagues…
Beneath the green
Ten thousand leagues...

To the Doctor, the argument is moot. Battle between humans and whatever those things are. A war. There is very little in the universe he despises more than war. Bus stations, burnt toast, then war. He isn't entirely fond of unrequited love, either, but war is worse. And Rose wants to go fight. It simply isn't happening.

"I won't see you hurt, Rose," he says, firmly.

It's an argument she's been dreading since the moment she even made mention of helping Sam out. She almost wished she hadn't oped for the trip for her birthday after the date with Dean. Then at least she'd be there... not out here. "Then don't look?"

The look he gives her is mild irritation, though his blood is boiling just below the surface. "It's not that easy," he says, flipping a few switches on the console. "Besides...I promised Jackie I'd keep you safe."

It has been a while since she's even heard that... )

[scene completed in IM with my Ten: [livejournal.com profile] rude_not_ginger, to sum up we were up til 2am with this one tearing our hearts out unexpectedly out of nowhere as Rose and Ten argue over her helping Sam out. *loves*]
banished_dame: ([phone] BW - Make the call)
Rose moved from the back galley of Torchwood with her cell in one hand and half of a chocolate chip cookie in her mouth waiting until she could take a seat at her desk before actually taking it out of her mouth. Mastering walking and talking was one thing, but mastering holding food in her mouth, playing a game on her cell and walking back toward her desk without really watching her footing was a damn miracle.

Still her foot dangled a bit in the air as she toed for the wheels of her chair to get a bit closer to her so she could finally sit back down. Completing level seven she paused the game and settled into her chair better.

Shaking the mouse she killed the screensaver of photos from the new life she had made, and glanced to her inbox, "Nope. Course not. He's all negotiatin' with the Eternals. Via wave files and who knows what is bouncing through my laptop. I'll likely have to run one hell of an antivirus on it after this. Void stuff all in my files."

Breaking a piece of the cookie off she popped it into her mouth and tried to lean back in her chair to the right angle where she could hook her ankles against the lower rail of the stool that was beside her desk. She'd done it before but this time she had the mind to lock the wheels at least.

"Just a bit closer..." Rose said to no one at all, since the compound was empty for the night once more, "Perfect!"

Rose was reclined in her chair with a piece of cookie in her mouth in the middle of serving coffee to one of her customers on "Diner Dash" when her phone rang.

"The hell? I swear... if this is Mum tellin' me I shouldn't be at work this late..."

A glance to the ID was unknown but most the area codes weren't even familiar to her as it was, so it was likely she just hadn't programmed it right, "Rose Tyler."

Summary: As part of the Homecoming Storyline, The Doctor [Ten] and Rose exchange Emails across the rift trying to sort out just what is sending the odd transmission, and why the rift still has information going through the scar, and what it all means.

Well how does one even start something like this out? I mean it's going up now... and in a way I guess it's always been here right? Something like that.

Anyway, I've figured it out Doctor. I just am hoping that it's all going to work out, because I'm pretty sure I'm out of ideas. Course I'm not admitting that to anyone just yet.

So this is it. My call out to across the divide, through time and the wall that keeps me here.

I'm calling out for anything, just a hello.

Cause well... it's about time I figure.
